Summer Wind

Lake Michigan  ***   Holland, MI

Stretching days
of stolen time
languishing
in sand and sun

Breathe your last
summer  wind
blow goodbye   kisses
toward the shore

Touch my hair
and turn my face toward you
waving sweet memories
across my toes

Hoping that
I beg you to stay
through winter
as though this time you would

When did you
change  color
my fickle friend
singing new songs
that chill my soul

Goodbye summer  wind
I’ll be here
with you in mind
‘til you return
again

  2. I am always hoping for that summer wind to stay longer. Like these lines:

    "When did you
    change color
    my fickle friend
    singing new songs
    that chill my soul"

  3. I am sad to see summer go this year, too. I'm usually longing for fall, but this year has been different somehow :)

  6. I'm sad to see summer go too (although I couldn't wait for her to end when it was 100 degrees for weeks at a time.) - I'd say I am probably more "fickle" than she ;)

  8. You did read my heart. I feel the same way and you put it all so nicely. Loved the kiss good-bye in the wind. Cool pic too.

  9. Yes summer is gone and in comes fall, then that crappy snow fall. I'll wait for it again too.

  11. Some of my best memories are from your part of the country. I spent two vacations at the Grand Hotel on Mac Island, and seredipitously landed in Holland at the full bloom of the tulips. I can see why you hate to see summer end..here in Texas we bid it goodbye vigorously in hopes of at last getting outside in pleasant weather. The temp. is still in the 90s but that 15 degrees cooler than it's been since May!

Lovely poem - with the feel of the water and the wind swaying through each line. G.

  12. Changing seasons...... I love those last beautiful days of each season.... like at the end of summer when fall is already upon us, each day a little cooler, the nights bringing the chill of coming winter, but then there's that one or two days in the midst of it that just shouts the glory of summer, if I could borrow your phase "to sing its song," the sun shining so beautifully and the soft summer wind saying its final goodbye to our longing hearts. I love those days, and it does seem like we are stretching time and stealing them from autumn. I no longer have a favorite season. It's the change of seasons that I love now, every one. I really like your poem about the change of this season... Every summer is really just a collection of memories and your description of that is beautiful.....

  13. That little tree looks so lonely there by itself. Beautiful in its changing though.

  14. OH, just, sigh. So lovely! The changing season always invigorates me, but it is hard to say goodbye.

Say, did you plant that tree?
