without the heart
to photograph
her wounded soul
the prompt remains
a memory seared
crouched outside
the Vatican City
...Walls
the Vatican City
...Walls
as thousands lined the street
under umbrellas for sun
for what
entrance to God?
the wizard of Oz?
pay no attention to the woman deformed
is she not art?
is she not holy?
she sat crouched
unhealed
unholy
unnoticed
outside the Vatican
walls
walls

Quite an image you penned. Very strong and bold.
ReplyDeleteI too don't have the heart to take a picture that would paint a thousand words - nice piece Patricia - Steve
ReplyDeletei love this, the tragedy of the cities that is too easy to ignore. you painted it well.
ReplyDeletei find this extremely sad...outside gods city sits how many as the followers stream inside for their own needs....
ReplyDeleteLost among the throng. Nice capture of the city.
ReplyDeleteyep - i was there and i have seen her...well one of them and i think it is a sad thing esp. when you see the treasures they've collected in their museums on 42.000 square meters...
ReplyDeleteThis just breaks my heart. You paint it so well. No photo needed.
ReplyDeleteI've see the church locked up, and doorbells to enter to keep "them" out, those that they fear, made me think of Mother Theresa and how she was a gift to the streets and the people that live in them. Great write.
ReplyDeletePowerful verse indeed, really enjoyed. "pay no attention to the woman deformed" jumped out at me, fantastic line of poetic beauty there! ~ Rose
