A flower at your grave site
left
me wanting
for
your heart side
buried
here,
is
not the heart
I
carry deep
within
me
Nine girls and one boy... I'm in the front on left. 1965 |
longing
to stop
the
passage of time
and
all
inevitable
passings
the growing children
leaving
home
and
graying years
that
cover me
could
it be
for just a
moment still
where
you would sing
and I would mimic your
voice
and
tangled laughter
would
ensue
patricia
smolenski spreng
in
memory of my precious mother, Mary
Burkholder Smolenski…
thank you for always bringing laughter, Mom.

Mother's Day is hard, isn't it?
ReplyDeletetruly is, Megan. I have to stay focused on the positive, like she would... and give thanks that she was mine for so long... and pay it forward to my children.
DeleteI was thinking the same as Megan ... my mother's funeral was right before Mother's Day in 2003.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful tribute for your mom.
Thank you Susan. It's such a heart rending day for so many reasons. Sending a warm hug your way, knowing you are such a wonderful mom too. =)
DeleteThis is a touching, beautiful tribute Patricia. I know how you miss her.
ReplyDeletePraying your Mother's Day is filled with joy.
Thank you, Linda =) Sending a hug your way too!!
DeleteThis is lovely, Pat. My mom is still with me - yet I actually miss her - because pieces of her are not there anymore.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see your mom's maiden name - that's a family for my husband. His mom's mom was a Burkholder.
Happy Mother's Day Diana! They are so blessed to have you for a mom. =) My mother's family was from Lancaster, PA. Her father's family was menonite. Wouldn't it be a wonder if there was a connection?
