My Chocolate Moose

There you stood
my chocolate moose
tempting
and I touched you

Taking in
what all might say was
wild and forbidden
Not to be fed but feared
and left
alone again, naturally*

But there I saw you hungry
lonely and afraid
and I fed you
to myself
my chocolate mousse

Found this fella in Brighton, Utah in the Cottonwood Canyon between Park City and Snowbird… where the aspen trees wave freely and leaves glitter in grace.  Couldn't help but wonder if the locals call him Bullwinkle.  August 8, 2012

(*somehow this old 1972 Gilbert O'Sullivan song popped in my head here.)
Sorrow Fell

grief shaken down
sorrow fell
sifting, ever sifting

yet  found within the strainer
worth more than gold itself

nuggets of truth
memories shine
riches untold

Simon, Simon, satan has demanded permission to sift you as wheat, but I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail and when you have turned, strengthen your brothers and sisters.  Luke 22:31

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.  1 Corinthians 2:9

Midnight Kayak Ride

Think about a midnight kayak ride,
dare yourself just a little.

Step outside
to look at the sky and wonder
while all lay sleeping…

would it be safe?
should someone know?

Feel tension
from doubt
and fear
and turtles.
Then go, because you can.

In the dark,
step through myrtle,  gently at first,
then stomping.
Worry quickly about snakes
and spiders.
Do it fast.
Haul the kayak from falling sawhorses.
Don’t look back.

Find yourself standing at waters edge
with  kayak handle in your hand
and you know…
your midnight kayak ride
began 30 minutes ago.

Slip into the water,
glide into the depths
of bravery.

Darkness drips
from each hurried stroke.
And fear subsides in tiny swirling wakes
behind you.

Paddling slows and disappears in awe
of the midnight world.

Then peace overcomes
as silk in the night
against  nakedness.

And silence lays,
floating
breathless,
in the stars.

Unresolved

Sometimes hope comes
and holds my breath captive
in a dissonant chord,
unresolved,
prolonged enough
to well my tears...

or fails
to come at all.

I've been raising monarch butterflies for the past 3 weeks.  This one hatched yesterday only to have a deformed, split proboscis (straw-like feeding tube that sucks nectar).  Sadly, without a way to draw nourishment, she will die.  I had just read a poem, Black, White and Blue by John Blase and felt inspired by his words and thoughts surrounding 'the dissonant chord left unresolved.'  This beauty that once defined hope and rebirth, is now caught in hopelessness.  She is the beautiful, 'dissonant chord... left unresolved.'

Monarch Chrysalis Forming

When you are hanging by a thread. Afraid of what is going to happen. Not in control. Worried about the future. Not able to see straight or understand what is happening. Overwhelmed by decisions that must be made. Struggling to change, accept change or filled with doubt that change will ever happen. Consumed by the grief that comes with loss and change.  Your story isn't over. There is Peace in the process.

God has a plan. He is trust.worthy.

“Above all, trust in the slow work of God.”
